Repair becomes easier when its tools are visible. A small shelf for mending supplies can change a household habit more effectively than a large storage box hidden in a closet.

Keep the shelf narrow. Add a jar of buttons, a card of needles, a few spools, small scissors, beeswax, and folded scraps of useful cloth. The point is not display. The point is readiness.

The Shelf as Reminder

A tear noticed at breakfast can be mended before evening if the tools are close. A missing button becomes a ten-minute task instead of a small private failure.

Mending supplies belong in the working parts of a house. They are as practical as matches, twine, and a pencil.
